Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is a volunteer staffed, non-profit, registered charitable organization which, in 2021, provided over 26,000 free meals to the needy in our community. Monday to Friday, 12 months of the year we prepare a lunch, served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas we prepare a special meal served by our volunteers. During our Thanksgiving and Christmas lunches we distribute scarves, mitts and hats that were knitted or donated by people from Selkirk and Winnipeg.
We provide 30 meals for Youth for Christ, three days a week during the school year. Youth for Christ runs a lunch time program for kids from the middle years school. We also provide funding to the Selkirk school breakfast programs.
Volunteers make up the heart and soul of the soup kitchen, without their commitment the soup kitchen could not continue. We are sustained by compassionate, committed volunteers and the contributions of our donors.
On occasion we host a Sunday breakfast prepared by church groups or other organizations.
Thank you!

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen evolved from a local person who saw the need in the City of Selkirk and began serving meals from her home. The City of Selkirk donated space in the Memorial Hall where it continues to this day.
Rene Gauthier started as a volunteer and in time became the chairperson of the soup kitchen. He volunteered for 18 years. Rene grew the volunteer base in the community and by the time he retired in 2018 the soup kitchen had approx. 25 volunteers and was serving a lunch 5 days a week.
Barbara and Beverly, who started as volunteers in 2015 became co-chairs when Rene retired.
The soup kitchen relies on donations from the community to continue our goal of providing food for the hungry. For some of our clients the meal they have at lunch today is their only meal for the day.
